Best Metal Albums of 2017 Midyear - George
“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, and 2017 by George, a list was created…” *
Whenever a bunch of people gather around and make lists and argue about which list is best, it’s probably a good idea to take a step back and realize that lists are subjective to the people that create them. There is no winning list. Everyone experiences life through their own perspective and most people aren’t watching the same show. The lists on the METALHEADS Podcast rarely agree on very many releases, and while this may cause light-hearted strife and jovial arguing on the podcast, it is actually a good thing for those listening to the show. For the listeners this means they are getting a much wider pool of releases to discover than they would if we agreed on everything. We all have our preferred styles and bands, and this variety just lets us cover more ground. There were a lot of good albums to choose from in the first half of 2017, and while there are many we didn’t agree on (you should definitely take heed of the ones we do agree on) there are great albums on all the lists that deserve to be discovered. I anticipate a good number of upcoming quality releases between now and December, but for now, here is my top 11 at midyear…
